It depends on your experience, and GetMyPass takes the guesswork out of it: we assess your driving before you pay and match you to the right number of hours, so you're never oversold. As a rough guide: complete beginners suit the 50-hour Elite course; newer learners with limited experience suit Advanced (35-45 hours); part-trained learners closing gaps suit Improver (20-30 hours); and those near test standard suit the Provisional refresher (10-15 hours). With GetMyPass, you choose your number of hours, we assess your current level and build a lesson plan around your target test date, and a DVSA-approved local instructor takes you through it in focused blocks: either fully intensive (long lessons over one to a few weeks) or semi-intensive (shorter lessons spread over several weeks). Packing tuition into consecutive days means you forget less between sessions, so skills stick instead of fading the way they do with a weekly one-hour lesson stretched over a year. You train on the real roads and roundabouts your local DVSA test centre uses. Lessons run Monday to Sunday, 7am to 7pm, with home or workplace pickup wherever feasible - and GetMyPass keeps the same instructor with you from first lesson to test day.

The practical test fee is your own and isn't included in any GetMyPass course. Since 12 May 2026, course providers can no longer book a learner's practical test and scanning apps are banned, so you book and pay for it yourself, directly with the DVSA: £62 on weekdays or £75 for an evening, weekend or bank holiday slot, with up to 2 date changes allowed if you give at least 10 working days' notice. What we do is watch for cancellations and short-notice DVSA slots, time your course to your test date so you're not waiting months, and make sure you walk in properly prepared. Theory training support is included on every course; the theory test is also booked separately. GetMyPass prepares you - the booking itself stays yours.

Both manual and automatic are available on every GetMyPass course: just choose your transmission at booking and we'll match you with a DVSA-approved instructor who teaches in it. On coverage, we reach most of the UK - England, Scotland and Wales, excluding Northern Ireland - through a network of local instructors rather than a single national fleet.
