How a one week driving course works
A one week driving course compresses your lessons into a single continuous block, usually 5-7 consecutive days, rather than spreading them across months of once-a-week sessions. For most learners that’s around 20-30 hours of tuition, which puts a one-week course in line with our Improver tier: enough time to go from a part-trained driver to genuinely test-ready without losing momentum between lessons.
Who this suits
A one week course suits learners with some previous driving experience – regular private practice, a handful of past lessons, or a recent test you narrowly failed – who want to convert that experience into a pass without a long, drawn-out course. If you’re starting from complete scratch, one week alone is usually tight; ask about combining it with extra hours or stepping up to our Advanced tier instead, so you’re not rushed toward test day before you’re ready.
Booking your test under the 2026 DVSA rules
Practical tests are booked directly with the DVSA at gov.uk – booking is self-book only, and since 12 May 2026 third-party scanning or slot-finding apps are banned. That booking step is always yours to complete, never GetMyPass’s. Once booked you can change your date up to 2 times, giving at least 10 working days’ notice, and the DVSA fee is £62 on weekdays or £75 for an evening, weekend or bank holiday slot. Is a one week driving course enough for a complete beginner?
Usually not on its own – and GetMyPass would rather tell you that before you book than after. The DVSA finds most learners need around 45 hours of tuition in total, and a one-week course typically delivers 20-30. If you’re starting from zero, we’d normally recommend our Advanced or Elite tiers, which spread more hours across two to eight weeks so nothing feels rushed and every skill gets learned properly. A week works best when you already have some experience to build on – part-trained learners are exactly who it suits. Can I fit a one week driving course around work?
A one week course with GetMyPass is designed as a full-time block: typically 4-6 hours of driving a day for 5-7 consecutive days, so most learners take the week as annual leave or use it during a break from study. It’s worth planning for the course to be your main commitment that week, because the daily hours are substantial. Can you guarantee I’ll pass?
No – and GetMyPass would encourage you to be wary of anyone who claims they can. The DVSA examiner alone decides on the day, and that’s true however intensively you’ve trained.
