Cornwall stretches from the Tamar to Land’s End, a peninsula of narrow lanes, coastal roads and market towns where driving conditions shift quickly between built-up centres and open, exposed countryside. Learners across the county come from towns including Bodmin, Camborne, Falmouth, Newquay, Penzance and Redruth, each with its own mix of town-centre junctions, seafront traffic and steep, twisting approach roads.

Cornwall’s DVSA test centres show a wide spread of results.

The Isles of Scilly posts an 88% pass rate, well above the 50% national average, while mainland centres sit closer to or below it: Launceston at 46%, Bodmin at 44% and the Camborne test centre, run out of the Carn Brea Hub, at 42%. That gap matters when choosing where to prepare and sit a test, since route familiarity and local hazard perception can differ from one test centre to the next. A structured intensive course gives learners in any of these towns concentrated time behind the wheel to get used to the roads and routes local to their chosen centre before test day.

GetMyPass covers 16 towns across Cornwall, working with DVSA-approved local instructors at 4 local DVSA test centres. Our intensive courses run 6-8 hours per day and can take you from beginner to test-ready in as little as one week.

Pass rates across Cornwall averaged 48% in 2024/25. Our structured day-by-day approach means you build genuine driving confidence fast, arriving at the test centre properly prepared.

Whether you’re in Truro, St Austell or Falmouth, we match you with an instructor who knows your local test routes – covering pickup from your home or workplace.

Pass rates vary noticeably across Cornwall’s test centres. The Isles of Scilly leads at 88%, far above the 50% national average, though its location makes it impractical for most mainland learners. Among the accessible mainland centres, Launceston is strongest at 46%, followed by Bodmin at 44% and Camborne’s Carn Brea Hub trailing at 42%, both a little below the national figure. Learners choose which centre to book their test at, and it is worth weighing up route familiarity against pass-rate figures when deciding where to sit the test, rather than simply picking the closest option.

FAQs, intensive driving courses in Cornwall

Which driving test centres are in Cornwall?

Cornwall’s published DVSA test centres include the Isles of Scilly, Launceston, Bodmin and the Camborne centre based at Carn Brea Hub. The Isles of Scilly has the highest pass rate at 88%, while Launceston sits at 46%, Bodmin at 44% and Camborne at 42%, all close to or below the 50% national average. Learners across Cornwall, including those from Bodmin, Camborne, Falmouth, Newquay, Penzance and Redruth, book their own test at whichever centre suits their route and travel plans, since self-booking has been required since 12 May 2026.

Do you cover rural areas of Cornwall?

Yes. Cornwall is largely rural, with towns like Bodmin, Camborne, Falmouth, Helston, Launceston, Liskeard, Newquay, Penryn, Penzance and Redruth spread across the peninsula, connected by narrow lanes and national-speed-limit roads rather than dual carriageways. Intensive courses are arranged with instructors local to these towns, so lessons can focus on the lane driving, gradients and rural junctions learners will actually meet, rather than generic town-centre practice.

What happens if I fail my test in Cornwall?

If a test isn’t passed, the learner books their next available slot directly with the DVSA, since providers have not been able to book tests on a learner’s behalf since 12 May 2026. Test dates can be changed up to twice with at least 10 working days’ notice, and the DVSA charges £62 for a weekday test or £75 for an evening or weekend slot. Reviewing which areas caused difficulty and arranging further lessons with the instructor before rebooking is the usual next step.

Are automatic courses available across Cornwall?

Automatic intensive courses can be arranged with local instructors across Cornwall, in towns such as Bodmin, Camborne, Falmouth, Newquay, Penzance and Redruth, subject to instructor availability in each area. A deposit from £180 secures the instructor for the course, with £18 per hour as the deposit rate; lesson fees themselves are paid directly to the instructor, and the one-off DVSA test fee of £62 or £75 is booked and paid separately by the learner.
